What is UroLift?
UroLift (prostatic urethral lift) is a minimally invasive procedure for enlarged prostate (BPH). Small implants pull prostate tissue away from the urethra to improve urine flow. No tissue is removed.
Who may be a good candidate?
- Bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms from BPH
- Desire to avoid more invasive surgery
- Patients prioritizing preservation of erectile and ejaculatory function
- Prostate anatomy and size appropriate for implant-based treatment (case-specific)
Potential benefits
- Outpatient/minimally invasive approach
- Fast recovery for many patients
- Usually avoids prolonged catheterization
- Favorable sexual side-effect profile in appropriate candidates
Risks and trade-offs
- Temporary burning, urgency, frequency, or mild bleeding
- Symptom response may be less dramatic than tissue-removing surgery in some patients
- Not ideal for every prostate anatomy
- Some patients may need future treatment over time
Typical recovery timeline
- Day 0–2: pelvic irritation/urgency can occur
- Week 1–2: symptoms usually settle
- Weeks 2–6: urinary improvement continues
